Job summary

Merle Norman Cosmetics is seeking a Director of Human Resources to lead organizational development, recruitment, employment law compliance, performance management, employee relations, and compensation and benefits. Bilingual Spanish preferred; onsite at the corporate HQ in Los Angeles near LAX.

The role provides leadership to the HR staff, shapes HR policies, and ensures a compliant work environment. 10–15 years HR experience and a BS/BA in HR management required.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA degree in Human Resources Management or similar discipline.
  • 10-15 years of progressive experience in Human Resources.
  • High degree of analytical aptitude and problem solving skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Annually reviews and makes recommendations to exec mgmt for HR policies and practices.
  • Maintains knowledge of employment legislation and ensures company compliance with federal and state laws.
  • Supervises the HR department (one HR Generalist) and participates in staff development.
  • Develops and maintains an HR information system to meet company needs.
  • Responsible for risk management and health and safety programs and requirements.
  • Interacts with legal counsel on HR matters as directed by leadership.

THIS IS AN ONSITE POSITION MONDAY – FRIDAY (NOT A REMOTE OR HYBRID WORK SCHEDULE)

This position is based at our Corporate Headquarters in Los Angeles near the LAX Airport.

Summary:

The Director of Human Resources is responsible for a number of job duties related to organizational development, recruitment and staffing, employment law, performance management, employee relations, and compensation and benefits. Provides management, leadership and direction to the HR staff. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Please note that the following description is not meant to be an exhaustive list of responsibilities but to highlight key responsibilities).

• Annually reviews and makes recommendations to executive management for improvement of the company’s policies, procedures and practices on human resources matters

• Maintains knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation and ensures Company compliance

• Maintains responsibility for Company compliance with federal and state legislation pertaining to all human resources matters

• Communicates changes in Company human resources policies and procedures and ensures proper compliance is followed

• Consults with legal counsel as appropriate, or as directed by the Vice Chairman, on human resources matters

• Works directly with department managers to assist them in carrying out their responsibilities on human resources matters

• Develops and maintains a human resource information system that meets Company human resources information needs

• Maintains responsibility for Company’s Risk Management and Health and Safety programs and requirements

• Responsible for various regulatory compliance processes

• Supervises the staff of the human resource department (one HR Generalist). Recommends, evaluates and participates in staff development

• Participates on special projects and seeks additional responsibilities

• Any other duties that may be assigned to meet Company goals

Identify opportunities for improving, developing and conserving human resources. Demonstrate ability to use data and statistics to solve real-world HR problems. Leverage advanced knowledge and skills to succeed.

Education/Experience:

BS/BA degree in Human Resources Management or similar discipline. 10-15 years of progressive experience in Human Resources. High degree of analytical aptitude and problem solving skills required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Responsible for making sure that the department comes together in a timely manner to complete the overall goal. Requires the ability to schedule tasks and coordinate with various team members to accomplish the results.

This position has direct oversight of the Human Resources department. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
