Job summary

SMC, based in Noblesville, Indiana, seeks a Corporate Trainer to design, lead, and advance our learning initiatives for managers, supervisors, and broader employees across the organization.

The role partners with Human Resources and Corporate Communications to develop impactful curricula, translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences, and measure program effectiveness to continuously improve outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in HR / OD / Education / Instructional Design or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in corporate training, L&D, leadership development, or organizational development.
  • Management experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver manager and supervisor training programs across the organization.

Job description

PURPOSE

The Corporate Trainer is an experienced learning and development professional responsible for designing, leading, and advancing SMC's learning initiatives.

Serving as a trusted partner to Human Resources, this position will lead manager and supervisor development across topics including leadership effectiveness, people management, coaching, performance management, company policies, procedures, and organizational expectations. This individual will assess learning needs, develop relevant curriculum, facilitate engaging training experiences, and measure program effectiveness.

The role will also partner closely with Corporate Communications to support the execution of SMC's Next Gen engagement and workforce pipeline programming, including student field trips, STEM experiences, career exploration programs, community events, and educational partnerships.

A key component of the position is developing strong working knowledge of SMC's products, technologies, applications, and operations. This individual must be able to translate complex technical concepts into engaging, approachable experiences for diverse audiences ranging from managers and employees to elementary students, educators, community partners, and other nontechnical audiences.

Essential Duties
Key Activities
Leadership & Employee Development
  • Own the development and facilitation of manager and supervisor training programs across the organization.
  • Design and deliver curriculum covering leadership fundamentals, communication, coaching, performance management, accountability, conflict resolution, employee relations, team effectiveness, and other organizational priorities.
  • Partner with Human Resources subject matter experts to develop and facilitate training related to company policies, procedures, compliance requirements, workplace expectations, and people-management practices.
  • Independently develop training curriculum, presentations, facilitator guides, participant materials, job aids, activities, and other learning resources.
  • Establish methods for evaluating training effectiveness and use participation, feedback, business needs, and other measures to continuously improve programs.
  • Conduct training needs assessments in partnership with Human Resources and business leaders to identify skill, knowledge, leadership, and performance gaps and recommend appropriate learning solutions.
Product & Business Education
  • Develop and maintain basic working knowledge of SMC products, automation technologies, applications, manufacturing operations, customers, and industries.
  • Partner with Engineering, Product Management, Sales, Manufacturing, and other technical subject matter experts to build accurate and engaging educational content.
  • Translate complex product and technical information into clear, approachable language without sacrificing accuracy.
  • Develop demonstrations, activities, presentations, and educational experiences that connect SMC technology to real-world applications.
  • Adapt technical content for different audiences, including employees, leaders, students, educators, community partners, and individuals without manufacturing or engineering backgrounds.
Next Gen & Workforce Development
  • Partner closely with Corporate Communications to execute SMC's Next Gen engagement and workforce development strategy.
  • Develop and executive engaging, age-appropriate programming for elementary, middle school, high school, college, and emerging workforce audiences.
  • Serve as a facilitator and company representative during student visits, career exploration programs, educational events, and workforce development initiatives.
  • Help students and educators understand the connection between SMC's technologies and careers in engineering, manufacturing, automation, skilled trades, business, and other professional disciplines.

Support programs designed to strengthen long-term awareness of SMC and advanced manufacturing career pathways among students and emerging talent.

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Education, Instructional Design, Business, Communications, or a related field would be good to list as preferred, with equivalent relevant experience considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in corporate training, L&D, leadership development, workforce development, education, or organizational development.
  • Management experience preferred.
Compensation & Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is $79,702-$119,571 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors.
