Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) is a global leader in the protection of unaccompanied and separated children who are forcibly displaced from their countries of origin. Launched in 2008, KIND champions a world in which every child’s rights and well-being are protected throughout their journey to safety.

Building on its extensive programming and successful model in the United States, KIND is expanding in the Americas and Europe to bring its experience to bear in working with unaccompanied and separated children. Our work focuses on addressing the legal and mental health needs of this population; building strong partnerships and engaging in training and capacity strengthening with governments, NGOs, and the private sector; and advocating for systemic and pragmatic reforms to advance the rights of unaccompanied and separated children.

Position Summary:

KIND seeks a Human Resources (HR) Coordinator to support the Chief People Officer (CPO), HR Team Leads and the broader HR function at KIND. The incumbent will provide administrative support to the CPO and HR Team Leads while assisting with coordinating events, communications, and projects across the department. The ideal incumbent is a proactive team player with strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills. The HR Coordinator reports to the Chief People Officer,

This a headquarters position based remotely from any location in the U.S.

Essential Functions

  • Meetings and Events:
  • Coordinates the agenda, high-level minutes, and action items for regular HR team meetings, plus other HR meetings as needed.
  • Follows up with action owners in between meetings.
  • Assists CPO and HR Leads with the coordination and planning of events.
  • Attends HR Connect and HR project team meetings, as needed, to help with coordination and action-taking.
  • Communications:
  • Helps CPO and HR Leads with drafting communications. Liaises with HR Leads, Director of Internal Communications and the Executive Office to help draft and finalize staff announcements and communications.
  • Assists CPO and HR Leads in drafting presentations, reports and memos.
  • Oversees the production of HR newsletters and other forms of communication, collaborating with colleagues across the HR team.
  • Helps to keep HR elements of Intranet and other sites up to date.
  • Projects:
  • Works with CPO and HR Leads to build the annual HR project tracker that supports the top-level HR Plan, and then keep it updated.
  • Coordinates the regular update of the Quarterly HR Plan report, project plan, and HR Dashboard.
  • Follows up with project leads and action owners, as needed, to update the project plan each month
  • Prepares report-outs for KIND’s Senior Leadership Team and HR meetings.
  • Provides support for HR projects, as needed, to support colleagues and meet deadlines.
  • Carries out ad hoc research to support HR Leads and projects.
  • Acts as the conduit between different sub-teams to ensure collaboration and communication on large-scale cross-team HR projects.
  • Administrative Support (working with the Executive Office) :
  • Collaborates with the Executive Office to provide administrative support for the Chief People Officer’s (CPO) agenda, meetings, and travel arrangements.
  • Provide other administrative support, as needed by the CPO and HR Leads, on a day-to-day basis.



Qualifications And Requirements

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in providing administrative support to a busy executive role.
  • Experience in producing communications, presentations, reports, and similar.
  • Experience in conducting and organizing research.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Either project coordination or HR experience is a strong plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to build rapport with staff at all levels.
  • Ability to manage multiple calendars and projects in a deadline-oriented environment with a keen orientation for detail.
  • Excellent discretion and ability to handle sensitive information with tact and diplomacy.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (such as Teams, Excel, etc.); experience in Adobe, Canva and other creative tools is a bonus.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and multi-task in our KIND environment, managing numerous priorities and emerging opportunities.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple projects in a deadline-oriented environment; ability to prioritize tasks and delegate as appropriate.
  • Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds, lived experiences, and communication styles.
  • Demonstrate discipline and adaptability to effectively deliver on our core mission of ensuring access to justice and safeguarding children’s well-being and rights.
  • Ability to multitask and work with a sense of urgency in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Committed to practicing and supporting wellbeing and a work-home life balance.
  • Experience working and communicating in a remote environment, preferred but not required.
