Job summary

Silgan Plastics Corporation in the United States—Indiana plant—seeks an HR leader to manage daily HR operations, safety programs, and an employee‑oriented culture. You will administer policies, payroll, and benefits, while aligning HR initiatives with company goals and labor relations.

The role requires 3+ years in HR (5+ in leadership), knowledge of employment laws, and strong communication. Spanish skills are a plus; bachelor's in HR/Business preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business or related field preferred.
  • PHR certification preferred.
  • 3+ years HR experience; 5+ years HR leadership preferred.
  • General knowledge of employment laws and practices.
  • Experience with workers’ compensation claim processing and legalities.
  • Strong MS Office skills; effective written and verbal communication.
  • Excellent interpersonal, coaching, and confidentiality skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities; bilingual Spanish is a plus.

  • Understand and implement the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Maintain Corporate Safety Manual and OSHA data tracking.
  • Administer benefits and open enrollment; ensure compliance.

Overview

Manage day‑to‑day human resources operations for the Ligonier Plant, administer HR policies, procedures and programs including facility safety, and create an employee‑oriented, high‑performance culture.

Major Responsibilities
  • Develop and administer Human Resources programs, procedures, and guidelines aligned with company strategic goals.
  • Participate in setting department goals, objectives, and systems and attend administrative staff meetings.
  • Assist in monitoring the annual HR budget.
  • Maintain Workday (HCM) for the Ligonier Plant, prepare and analyze necessary reports, and produce periodic reports for management.
  • Process weekly payroll for Ligonier and partner with accounting and corporate payroll to maintain the payroll database.
  • Implement the performance management system, including performance development plans (PDPs), employee development programs, and safety programs.
  • Establish and maintain an in‑house employee training system covering training needs assessment, onboarding, management and production cross‑training, safety, and measurement of training impact.
  • Recruit hourly and salaried employees: develop staffing plans, conduct interviews (in‑person and by phone), administer assessments, perform reference and background checks, and make recommendations to supervisors.
  • Maintain relationships with internal and external clients to achieve staffing goals and communicate employer information and benefits during the screening process.
  • Conduct exit interviews for terminating employees.
  • Develop HR policies related to employee relations and safety, communicate policies, and advise managers on progressive discipline and employment issues.
  • Conduct investigations for employee complaints and advise supervisors on corrective actions.
  • Understand and implement the collective bargaining agreement, build relationships with the union, and support productive labor/management relations.
  • Maintain the Corporate Safety Manual, implement safety programs, track OSHA data, complete monthly safety training records, and manage workers’ compensation processes.
  • Administer benefits: manage day‑to‑day benefits services, assist employees with claims, schedule benefits onboarding, and conduct annual open enrollment.
  • Ensure compliance with governmental, labor, and federal statutes (EEO, ADA, FMLA, ERISA, OSHA, etc.) and reduce company exposure to lawsuits.
  • Support organization development initiatives: succession planning, workforce development, culture promotion, and participation in company‑wide committees.
Education & Certifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business or related field preferred.
  • PHR certification preferred.
Experience & Skills
  • At least 3 years of HR experience (5+ years of HR leadership experience preferred).
  • General knowledge of employment laws and practices.
  • Experience in workers’ compensation claim processing and legalities.
  • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Office environment.
  • Effective oral and written communication.
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills.
  • Evidence of maintaining confidentiality.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
