Job Description

Our Human Resources Team is seeking a full-time Human Resources Business Partner to join our growth-oriented professional engineering and environmental consulting company. In this role, you serve as an internal consultant to people managers on HR-related matters and partner with them to develop integrated solutions in recruiting, talent management, training and development, change management, compensation, and employee relations and engagement.

This role has the potential to work virtually and can be filled near any BC office, with a preference for Denver, Phoenix, Seattle, Saint Paul, Atlanta, Nashville, or Philadelphia.

What you will do

As an HR Business Partner, you will have responsibility for providing daily human resources support and solutions within your geographical area. You will provide operational and consultative support to people managers and their teams; equipping managers with the tools and techniques to manage staff in alignment with Brown and Caldwell philosophies, policies, practices, and programs. You will act as a key thought partner and coach for leaders on various HR issues and processes impacting strategic and long-range business plans. You will partner closely with the HR Directors, Talent Advisors, and our Center of Excellence teams to support company-wide initiatives, local business needs, employee development, and enrichment programs.

  1. Develop plans for recruitment, training, restructuring, and succession, and help relevant staff implement them in partnership with HR Directors.
  2. Demonstrate strong business acumen; gain deep insights by learning and understanding BC's business goals and operations through building relationships and visibility with the team, key business stakeholders, and people leaders.
  3. Partner closely with Talent Advisors to provide talent and workforce-related advice, strategies, and solutions that align with BC's philosophies, policies, practices, and programs. Assist in developing and implementing initiatives for recruiting talent.
  4. Work closely with assigned Talent Advisors to support hiring and diversity initiatives. Participate in interviews as needed.
  5. Coach people leaders/managers on developing clear priorities and development plans, providing coaching and feedback throughout the year, and evaluating individual and group performance. Collaborate with managers to ensure employees have the skills and resources needed to achieve their priorities.
  6. Partner with HR Directors on performance management and calibration for quarterly reviews and year-end merit processes.
  7. Synthesize information and analyze data to help leaders identify trends. Use data to make informed recommendations for decision-making.
  8. Execute complex and non-routine HR responsibilities, applying knowledge of HR policies/procedures, local and federal employment laws, and talent management practices.
  9. Develop and disseminate reports related to retention, labor, etc., as necessary.
  10. Drive HR initiatives, demonstrating effective change management and communication strategies aligned with business and workforce needs.
  11. Respond promptly to escalated problems and inquiries.
  12. Coach managers on employee relations issues, providing guidance on conversations with employees, the employee relations process, and potential legal issues. Participate in investigations as necessary.
  13. Support managers in solving people-related business challenges by understanding local issues, considering alternatives, and taking quick, effective action.
  14. Serve as the primary contact for all supervisors and local leaders within your geography.
  15. Support and lead on-demand initiatives within your geography (e.g., office lunch and learns, market salary adjustments, retention plans, Hogan, DiSC, etc.).
  16. Collaborate with HR Directors to lead organization health survey processes and debrief conversations, developing action plans based on survey themes.
  17. Maintain sensitivity, professionalism, and discretion in all responsibilities.
  18. If working remotely, ensure a reliable internet connection and ability to work productively.
  19. Occasional travel may be required (0-20%).
Desired Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in Human Resources or Business Administration) or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of Human Resources Business Partner or Generalist experience.
  • Strong knowledge of HR laws, policies, programs, and procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to understand business needs and leverage HR expertise accordingly; experience in a highly matrixed organization.
  • Solid analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and shift focus as needed.
  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred.
  • Willingness to travel (0-20%) required.
Additional Information

Salary Range: The starting pay range varies based on location, skills, experience, and education, with potential future adjustments.

  • Location A: $118,000 - $161,000
  • Location B: $130,000 - $177,000
  • Location C: $142,000 - $194,000
