Job summary

Denver Public Schools seeks an experienced HR Business Partner to deliver comprehensive HR services to designated departments and functions. You will work with the Central Office to coach and influence managers, aligning district solutions with school needs.

You will lead policy development, partner with unions, and support district initiatives while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships and a commitment to equitable education for all students.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor’s or relevant work experience.
  • Three (3) years experience as an HR Business Partner or related role.
  • Experience reading, writing, and interpreting bargaining agreements and contracts.
  • Extensive partnering and relationship building with various stakeholders.
  • General exposure to the full scope of HR functions and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with HRIS systems and participation in policy development.

Responsibilities

About this job:

Responsible for end-to-end HR service delivery to designated departments / functions. Manages District activities which engage schools, businesses, community leaders and organizations in a collaborative effort to improve student performance. Cultivate, nurture and sustain partnerships between DPS schools and the Denver community. Work in partnership with DPS Central Office to provide coaching, support and influence that enable key clients to effectively deliver district solutions.

What You'll Do:
  • Partners in strategy development; Provides advice and consultative services to managers and employees..
  • Provide counsel and assistance to central office managers and directors on a broad range of human resource issues.
  • Plan and facilitate professional development for principals on leadership and human resources topics.
  • Identify gaps in existing HR policies and contribute to the development of new HR policies and procedures.
  • Proactively consult, influence and negotiate with Trade Union Officials on local and Company wide issues.
  • Provide HR Business Partner support to the key Central Office areas.
  • Manage assigned staff and programs designed to improve the achievement and performance of central office employees.
  • Work collaboratively with the members of the Superintendent’s Cabinet, staff, and community to attain district goals.
  • Create HR communication and change initiatives that go out to all employees from Human Resources.
  • Maintain current on all aspects of HR policy, benefits, information or events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need:
  • Minimum Bachelor's or relevant work experience is required.
  • Three (3) year experience as an HR Business Partner or related role.
  • Previous experience reading, writing, and interpreting bargaining agreements and contracts.
  • Extensive partnering and relationship building with various stakeholders required.
  • General exposure or experience to the full scope of HR functions. Strong interpersonal and customer-focused skills.
  • Quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills and program evaluative capabilities. Experience working effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Experience with HRIS systems. Lead and participate as required in HR working groups involved in the development and promotion of HR policy and procedures.
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize daily tasks.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills including on-line and on-phone instructional skills.
  • Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office products (e.g. Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and call-center software.
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Oracle preferred.
  • Knowledge of key strategies and trends in employee relations, labor relations, compensation, benefits, performance management, and other HR areas.
  • Previous experience in union environments Prefer public education experience.
  • Lead for racial and educational excellence and work to dismantle systems of oppression and inequity in our community, along with believing in and supporting all students so they feel seen and heard with access to high quality education.
  • Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while working with us.
  • Have the ability with or without accommodations to meet the physical demands of the position.
