  • Ability to stay calm with difficult customers and protect confidential information.
  • Ability to interact with diverse stakeholders including faculty, staff, students, and external constituents.
  • Good organizational and administrative skills with attention to detail.
  • Able to resolve routine problems efficiently and think critically.

Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY

The Employee Resource Center is seeking a customer-focused and highly organized Human Resources Assistant to provide front-line service and operational support to employees, applicants, visitors, and other internal and external customers.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in developing broad knowledge and experience across Human Resources. As a central point of contact for the department, you will help employees and customers navigate HR processes, answer questions, resolve routine issues, and connect individuals with the right HR resources.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as a welcoming and professional first point of contact for Human Resources, providing front desk coverage, greeting and screening visitors, managing building access, and answering the department’s main phone line.
  • Assist employees, applicants, departments, and other customers with HR processes, forms, and general information.
  • Use HR systems to generate and review reports and respond to customer inquiries.
  • Accept and review materials submitted by employees and receive departmental deliveries.
  • Collaborate with HR colleagues on operational activities and special projects.
  • Perform other related responsibilities based on evolving team and departmental needs.

Because the Employee Resource Center provides direct service to employees, applicants, and visitors, this position provides full-time, in-person coverage on-site. Limited workplace flexibility may be available depending on operational needs and Employee Resource Center staffing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree. A combination of education and experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience providing customer service in an office environment.
  • Demonstrated computer software experience, including MS Office Professional Suite with advanced knowledge of Excel, Word, SharePoint, and OneDrive.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm when dealing with difficult customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide customer service to a wide variety of diverse individuals including faculty, staff, students, University administrators, and external constituents.
  • Organizational and administrative skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to resolve routine problems efficiently, effectively, and independently and think critically.
  • Ability to preserve confidential information and must have awareness of data integrity protocols.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with Kuali Financial Systems, CORE-CT, or similar enterprise systems.
  • Prior experience in a higher education academic setting.
  • Bilingual.
APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, 40-hour work-week, position based in Storrs and includes a full benefits package and competitive salary. This appointment requires an in-office, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm schedule.
