The Office of Human Resources and Employee Experience (HREX) is responsible for ensuring the Department complies with applicable labor and employment laws and City and Agency rules and policies. The unit provides guidance to managers and employees on topics including recruitment, employment, civil service, job and organizational design, labor relations, youth programs, benefits, wellness, performance evaluations, salary administration, timekeeping, and leave administration.

The selected candidate will join the Candidate Processing team within Staffing Management at HREX. The team's goal is to facilitate smooth offer processing, candidate engagement, and onboarding. The HR Assistant will handle responsibilities such as:

  • Making offers to new hires and assisting candidates with applications and onboarding
  • Serving as the primary contact for candidate issues with candidates, hiring managers, and background check teams
  • Coordinating with the Office of Internal Affairs and Discipline (IAD) on candidate backgrounds and applicant forms
  • Facilitating start dates with candidates and stakeholders
  • Processing new hire documentation, including I9s and other forms
  • Acting as liaison to external agencies, hiring managers, and partners for release requests
  • Preparing hiring statistics and reports
  • Using NYCAPS to enter transactions and track activities
  • Maintaining the New Hire Tracker and generating reports
  • Tracking data and creating recruitment reports
  • Performing additional HR duties as needed, such as event attendance, recruitment, and candidate review

Minimum Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent plus four years of relevant full-time experience in fields such as criminal justice, human resources, law, or related areas; or
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college; or
  • Equivalent education and/or experience to the above

Remote Work

This position may be eligible for up to 2 days of remote work weekly under the Remote Work Pilot Program.
