Job summary

LSI Staffing is seeking a Human Resources Specialist in Lawrence, Kansas to support payroll, benefits, recruiting, onboarding, employee records and HR compliance in a hands-on generalist role.

This role partners with employees and management to ensure accurate HR processes and a positive workplace culture, with responsibilities across payroll, HRIS, performance, and employee relations. Exempt, direct hire, $65K-$75K.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of HR generalist experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of payroll processing experience; ADP Workforce Now experience is a plus.
  • Experience with HRIS systems, applicant tracking, benefits administration, performance management, and time and attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Process bi-weekly payroll and verify payroll reports.
  • Administer employee benefits programs and COBRA coordination.
  • Coordinate FMLA requests and maintain documentation.
  • Manage full-cycle recruiting activities: postings, screenings, interviews, offers.
  • Onboard new hires and assist managers with training schedules.
  • Maintain employee files, HR records, and job descriptions.
  • Utilize ADP Workforce Now and HR technology to improve processes.
  • Support performance reviews, mentoring, and employee development.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Collaborate on workers' compensation and safety related documentation.
  • Support employee engagement initiatives and company events.
  • Respond to inquiries and maintain confidentiality.

Human Resources Specialist

Classification: Exempt
Reports To: HR Manager
Pay: $65K $75K


Position Summary

The Human Resources Specialist serves in a generalist capacity, supporting day-to-day HR operations including payroll, benefits administration, recruiting, onboarding, employee records, compliance, HRIS administration, and employee engagement. This position works closely with employees and management to ensure accurate, efficient, and compliant HR processes while promoting a positive and professional workplace culture.


Key Responsibilities


  • Process bi-weekly payroll, verify payroll reports, and maintain accurate supporting documentation.

  • Administer employee benefit programs, including enrollment, invoice reconciliation, COBRA coordination, and required compliance reporting.

  • Coordinate FMLA requests and maintain appropriate documentation in accordance with applicable regulations.

  • Manage full-cycle recruiting activities, including job postings, candidate screening, interviews, background and reference checks, pre-employment testing, and job offers.

  • Coordinate new-hire orientation and onboarding and assist managers with training schedules.

  • Maintain accurate employee files, HR records, job descriptions, procedures, and document-retention requirements.

  • Utilize and maintain ADP Workforce Now and other HR technology to improve processes and operational efficiency.

  • Support performance review processes, internship programs, mentoring initiatives, and employee development activities.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and HR regulations.

  • Collaborate with Safety and management on workers' compensation claims and related documentation.

  • Support employee engagement initiatives, internal committees, company events, and workplace culture programs.

  • Respond professionally and promptly to employee, management, and external inquiries.

  • Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive employee and company information.

  • Perform additional HR-related responsibilities as assigned.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred; or 3+ years of HR generalist experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Human Resources certification preferred.

  • Minimum 2 years of payroll processing experience; ADP Workforce Now experience is a plus.

  • Experience with HRIS systems, applicant tracking, benefits administration, performance management, time and attendance, and employee records.

  • Working knowledge of employment laws, HR compliance, FMLA, COBRA, and related regulations.

  • Strong recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, and administrative capabilities.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

  • Strong attention to detail, judgment, professionalism, and discretion.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with employees and management.


Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Primarily an office-based position requiring regular computer and office equipment use and frequent interaction with employees and management. Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
