HUMAN RESOURCES GENERALIST
Reports to: Human Resources Coordinator

Exemption Status: Non-Exempt
Primary Purpose
Perform professional and technical human resources functions in support of the district's daily HR operations. Provide knowledgeable assistance to employees and administrators regarding employment, benefits, leave, personnel records, and district HR procedures. Assist with recruitment, onboarding, employee data management, compliance reporting, and other assigned human resources programs while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and a high level of customer service.
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, management, or related field preferred or relevant. TASBO Certification required within 1 year of employment.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Working knowledge of human resources practices and employment procedures
- Ability to interpret and apply district policies, procedures, and applicable regulations
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
- Ability to maintain highly confidential and sensitive information
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, HR information systems, and word processing
- Ability to collect, review, reconcile, and report employee and HR data
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Effective interpersonal and customer-service skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with administrators, employees, payroll, and other departments
- Ability to maintain accurate records and identify discrepancies
- Ability to learn and use district HR, benefits, applicant tracking, and reporting systems
Experience:
Two years of human resources, payroll, benefits, administrative, or related experience preferred.
Public school or governmental human resources experience preferred.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Employment and Staffing
- Assist with the district's recruitment and hiring process, including posting vacancies, reviewing applications for completeness, communicating with applicants and supervisors, and maintaining hiring documentation.
- Process new-hire documentation and assist with onboarding, including employment forms, criminal history requirements, references, certifications, and other required employment records.
- Coordinate with supervisors and administrators regarding the status of vacancies, recommendations, new hires, transfers, resignations, and other personnel actions.
- Maintain accurate employee information within district human resources systems and ensure personnel changes are entered and documented in a timely manner.
- Assist with employment contracts, letters of reasonable assurance, salary statements, supplemental duty documentation, and other employment-related correspondence.
- Assist with reviewing employee credentials, certifications, service records, and other documents necessary to determine employment eligibility and placement.
Benefits and Leave Administration
- Assist with administration of employee benefit programs and serve as a resource for employees regarding enrollment, eligibility, changes, and general benefit questions.
- Assist new-hire benefit enrollment and qualifying life-event changes and assist employees with required benefits documentation.
- Assist with employee leave administration, including maintaining leave records, reviewing documentation, communicating leave requirements, and coordinating information with payroll and supervisors.
- Maintain accurate documentation related to employee benefits, leave, and other assigned HR programs.
HR Data, Reporting, and Compliance
- Collect, review, maintain, and reconcile human resources data required for district, state, and federal reporting.
- Assist with personnel data collection and reporting requirements, including information necessary for PEIMS and other district reporting functions.
- Review HR records and system data for accuracy and work with appropriate departments to resolve discrepancies.
- Compile HR reports, spreadsheets, personnel information, and supporting documentation as requested.
- Assist in maintaining personnel files and records in accordance with district procedures and applicable records-retention requirements.
- Assist with position control, job descriptions, employee assignments, and other personnel data to ensure district records remain accurate and current.
Employee Relations and HR Support
- Respond to routine employee and supervisor questions regarding HR policies, procedures, benefits, leave, employment records, and personnel processes.
- Provide professional and responsive customer service while appropriately referring complex or sensitive employee-relations matters to the HR Coordinator or HR Director.
- Prepare letters, notices, forms, reports, spreadsheets, and other HR correspondence.
- Assist with annual updates and distribution of employee handbooks, HR procedures, forms, and other employee communications.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of personnel records, employee information, and other sensitive district matters.
HR Programs and Special Projects
- Assist with implementation and administration of new or expanded HR programs and initiatives.
- Support HR data collection, tracking, documentation, and reporting associated with district programs and personnel initiatives.
- Assist with employee training, new-hire orientation, benefits education, and other HR presentations as assigned.
- Maintain current knowledge of district HR procedures and changes affecting assigned responsibilities.
- Assist the HR Coordinator and HR Director with special projects, audits, records requests, compliance activities, and other departmental needs.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the HR Coordinator, HR Director, or Superintendent.

Occasional light lifting and carrying.
Environment:
Fast-paced office environment with frequent interruptions; may occasionally require prolonged or irregular hours during peak hiring, benefits, reporting, or other HR periods.
