Job summary

MetOx International, Inc. is seeking a Staff Materials Engineer to lead HTS material development at our Houston HQ. You will steer processing–structure–property relationships in MOCVD-grown HTS films, optimize microstructure, and drive scale-up for manufacturing readiness.

The role requires senior expertise in thin-film deposition, advanced characterization, and data-driven optimization to accelerate commercialization of superconducting technology.

Qualifications

  • Master's in Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related discipline; advanced degree may substitute for experience
  • 7+ years of experience developing HTS materials, complex oxides, epitaxial thin films, or related functional materials
  • Deep understanding of processing–structure–property relationships in advanced materials
  • Experience with thin-film growth, epitaxy, crystal defects, microstructure evolution, and advanced materials characterization
  • Ability to design and execute complex experimental programs
  • Experience applying multivariate statistics, machine learning, or AI to large datasets
  • Strong scientific foundation linking first-principles materials behavior to manufacturing outcomes

Responsibilities

  • Lead the materials strategy supporting HTS manufacturing platform and long-term technology roadmap
  • Develop first-principles understanding of relationships between MOCVD conditions, film growth, microstructure, and performance
  • Define microstructural targets to maximize in-field critical current and manufacturing robustness
  • Identify and evaluate new precursor chemistries, deposition approaches, and characterization methods
  • Drive transitions of lab discoveries into robust, high-volume manufacturing processes
  • Design and lead experimental programs to establish processing–structure–property relationships in HTS thin films
  • Develop MOCVD process windows through experiments, modeling, and statistics
  • Apply advanced characterization techniques to identify performance-limiting mechanisms
  • Leverage manufacturing Data with ML/AI to correlate tool parameters and film performance
  • Develop new in situ/ex situ diagnostic methods to improve growth control
