Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine safety inspections and field observations at jobsites, facilities, and other work locations.
  • Identify workplace hazards, unsafe conditions, and safety concerns and communicate findings to employees, supervisors, and the Safety Manager.
  • Provide field safety support and coach employees and supervisors on safety requirements and safe work practices.
  • Reinforce safety expectations through field observations and corrective coaching.
  • Review JSAs and other job safety documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist with new-hire safety orientation, safety meetings, toolbox talks, and employee safety training.
  • Assist with investigations involving injuries, vehicle accidents, property damage, environmental events, near misses, and other safety-related incidents.
  • Assist with identifying corrective actions and following up on safety-related findings.
  • Support compliance with OSHA requirements, customer requirements, company safety requirements, and industry standards.
  • Enter and maintain safety information within company electronic systems.
  • Assist with customer safety audits, inspections, meetings, and contractor compliance requirements.
  • Perform other safety-related duties as assigned.

Position Summary

The HSE Specialist supports Commander Automation & Oilfield Services' safety program by assisting with field safety activities, employee training, workplace inspections, incident investigations, regulatory compliance, and safety documentation.

This position works closely with employees, supervisors, and management to identify workplace hazards, promote safe work practices, and support the company's overall safety efforts. The Safety Specialist will regularly travel to jobsites and company locations to provide safety support for electrical, automation, construction, and oilfield operations.

This is a field-focused position, with approximately 90% of working time dedicated to field safety activities and 10% dedicated to administrative, documentation, training preparation, and other safety-related responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine safety inspections and field observations at jobsites, facilities, and other work locations.
  • Identify workplace hazards, unsafe conditions, and safety concerns and communicate findings to employees, supervisors, and the Safety Manager.
  • Provide field safety support and coach employees and supervisors on Commander safety requirements, customer-specific safety requirements, safe work practices, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Reinforce safety expectations through field observations, employee engagement, and corrective coaching when deficiencies are identified.
  • Review Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and other job-specific safety documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist with new-hire safety orientation, safety meetings, toolbox talks, and employee safety training.
  • Assist with investigations involving injuries, vehicle accidents, property damage, environmental events, near misses, and other safety-related incidents.
  • Assist with identifying corrective actions and following up on safety-related findings.
  • Support compliance with applicable OSHA requirements, customer requirements, company safety requirements, and recognized industry safety standards.
  • Enter and maintain safety information within company electronic systems.
  • Assist with customer safety audits, inspections, meetings, and contractor compliance requirements.
  • Perform other safety-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience in HSE, electrical, construction, automation, oil and gas, or a related industrial environment preferred, but not required.
  • General knowledge of workplace safety practices.
  • Ability to identify common workplace hazards.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer and documentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with field employees, supervisors, management, and customers.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to jobsites as required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience conducting safety inspections, employee training, or incident investigations.
  • Experience within the oil and gas, electrical, automation, or construction industries.
  • Bilingual preferred but not required.

Physical & Work Requirements

The HSE Specialist must be able to work in office, industrial, construction, and oilfield environments. The position may require extended periods of standing and walking, travel to remote jobsites, walking on uneven terrain, climbing stairs or ladders, wearing required PPE, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
