Job summary

Excel Academy Charter School in Providence, RI is seeking an Assistant Athletics Coach for the high school program. The role focuses on developing student-athletes, leading after-school practices, and supporting game-day supervision across evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities include planning practices, communicating with staff, enforcing policies, promoting academics, and maintaining equipment and a safe environment. This position offers a seasonal stipend with postseason bonus opportunities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework or degree preferred.
• Previous experience cheering at the high school or collegiate level, or demonstrated knowledge of rules, strategies, and skill development.
• Ability to work effectively with high school–aged student-athletes and support their athletic, academic, and personal growth.
• Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to collaborate with athletic staff, school administrators, parents/guardians, and students.
• Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and development-focused team culture.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including afternoons, evenings, and weekends as required.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and lead daily practices focusing on skill, teamwork, sportsmanship, and competition prep.
• Coach and supervise student-athletes during games, tournaments, and school events, including evenings/weekends.
• Maintain ongoing communication with coaching staff for player development and program alignment.
• Enforce school/league/athletic policies on conduct, attendance, and eligibility.
• Model positive behavior, academic responsibility, and good sportsmanship.
• Assist with equipment, gym setup/breakdown, and safe practice/competition spaces.
