Job summary

Newmark School & Newmark High School in Scotch Plains, NJ is seeking a dedicated HR Specialist to manage the full recruitment cycle, maintain personnel records, oversee benefits and payroll, and support accounting and audits. This full-time, in-person position offers a competitive salary and a chance to contribute to a mission-driven educational not-for-profit.

You will collaborate with leadership, ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, and handle leaves, time-off, and onboarding

Qualifications

  • HRCI, SHRM, or other accredited HR certification preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in HR, Sociology, Psychology, or related field; Master’s preferred.
  • 3+ years of HR experience, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle multiple tasks.
  • Excellent tech skills with payroll and staff management systems, including Paylocity.
  • Strong knowledge of HR regulations (state, federal).

Responsibilities

  • Lead full recruitment process from posting to onboarding.
  • Maintain personnel records and track staff certifications.
  • Oversee benefits administration (health, 401(k), pension, FSA, ACA reporting).
  • Handle payroll processing and timesheet reviews.
  • Support accounts payable/receivable and budgeting activities.
  • Provide backup for financial reporting and GL data entry.
  • Administer employee leave and time-off records.
  • Assist audits and regulatory reviews.

Newmark K-8 School and Newmark High School are state-approved, private not-for-profit institutions dedicated to serving children with autism spectrum disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, attention issues, and other developmental disabilities. What You'll Do

  • Manage the full recruitment process, including posting jobs, screening candidates, conducting interviews, and completing onboarding documentation for new hires.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date personnel records, track staff certifications, and ensure compliance with employment laws and organizational policies.
  • Oversee benefits administration, including health insurance, 401(k), pension, FSA plans, and annual ACA reporting.
  • Handle payroll processes by reviewing timesheets and deductions, and manage employee relations issues such as policy violations, workplace concerns, and disciplinary actions.
  • Assist the Director of Business Operations with accounts payable and accounts receivable processing, budget preparation, and other Business Office functions as needed.
  • Provide backup support for financial reporting, account reconciliations, and general ledger data entry as needed and in accordance with established internal controls.
  • Administer employee leave and time-off programs and maintain accurate supporting records.
  • Prepare requested payroll, benefits, personnel, and financial documentation for audits and regulatory reviews.

What We're Looking For

  • HRCI, SHRM, or other accredited HR certification preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree in HR, Sociology, Psychology, or a related field; Master's preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in HR, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, handle multiple tasks at once, and exercise discretion.
  • Excellent technological skills with payroll and staff management systems, including Paylocity.
  • Deep understanding of HR issues, practices, and state, industry, and federal regulations.
