Responsibilities

  • Conduct background checks for new hires.
  • Oversee payroll processing and HRIS data accuracy.

Position Summary

The HR Manager is responsible for facilitating all basic Human Resources functions and provides guidance, support and recommendations to Chief Finance and Operations Officer. Manage human resource issues, including onboarding/offboarding staff, benefits and payroll. Evaluate, analyze and interpret employee data with an eye toward improving processes, effectiveness and employee morale. Provide support to employees on all employment and benefits matters. Improve and effectively coordinate employee policies, processes, and practices. Report and ensure compliance standards and filings are effectively implemented. The HR Manager is encouraged to discuss with management, opportunities for professional and social involvement with school and student activities.

Position Duties and Responsibilities
  • Address employee questions or concerns regarding HR, Benefits and Payroll related matters.
  • Manage employment lifecycle, including recruitment, new hire and tenure
  • Actively manage employee onboarding
  • Conduct and track background checks
  • Create & distribute job descriptions for recruitment and employment purposes
  • Manage Workers Comp program and injuries
  • Manage employee separation process for both voluntary/involuntary terminations
  • Conduct Annual in-person & online training for all employees.
  • Manage the process of updating, correcting, and distributing Employee Handbooks and school policies and procedures
  • Provide Division/Department Heads with support in employment recommendations as needed, including hiring/termination decisions, as well as corrective action and performance management
  • Oversee Leave of Absence & FMLA Administration
  • Conduct compensation analysis and implement Annual Merit Increases
  • Manage PTO Accrual Reset / Implementation and tracking
  • Completes legal notices, unemployment claims, and other paperwork as necessary
  • Maintenance of employee record
  • Manage and review payroll processing through HRIS
  • Oversee and audit benefit profiles, deductions, end dates, and employee elections
  • Maintain accurate employee benefit records with vendors
  • Ensure ACA Compliance for part time, full time, and terminated employees
  • Actively manage retirement plan profiles including contributions, payroll files, withdrawals, and audits
  • Provide advice and guidance to Leadership regarding HR, Benefits & Payroll matters
  • Manage front desk receptionist
  • Manage production and distribution of W-2, 1095-C, Medicare Pt D, and Summary Annual Reporting forms
  • Accurately complete required reporting, including but not limited to Workers Comp & EEO-1 Reporting
  • Ensure practices are compliant with ACA, FLSA, Retirement Plan compliance, local HR guidelines, and other standards/regulations.
  • Prepare for and support data collection for internal/external audits (403(b), Payroll, etc.)
  • Perform various other duties as assigned by leadership

Qualifications

4+ yrs experience, in an Independent School environment preferred

Professional certification preferred

Working knowledge of HR principles and practices including but not limited to employee benefits, payroll practices, compliance laws and regulations

Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations and compliance that apply to HR and payroll programs including FLSA, FMLA, COBRA, ACA, & 403(b)

Ability to maintain highly confidential and sensitive information

Proficiency with HRIS systems, preferably Paycor

Superior level of detail orientation, accuracy and sense of urgency

Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Gmail, Google Drive, Shared Docs and Sheets or Microsoft equivalent)

Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions

Ability to work effectively with others

Ability to work independently

Ability to interact with a professional demeanor with staff, general public, and school personnel
