Job summary

The City of Palos Verdes Estates seeks a professional, confidential Human Resources and Risk Management Director to plan, oversee, and coordinate complex HR and risk activities for general, sworn and non-sworn personnel. This senior role partners with the City Manager and Police Department to ensure strategic HR execution.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in human resources management, public or business administration, employee relations, risk management or a related field.
• Three (3) years of administrative experience in human resources, benefits administration, risk management; leadership is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, oversee, coordinate, and carry out complex HR and risk management duties for City employees and Police Department personnel.
• Develop and implement recruitment, testing, and selection processes; ensure equal employment opportunity.
• Administer benefits, compensation, and workers' compensation; coordinate with third-party administrators.
• Support labor relations, MOUs, payroll coordination, and compliance with laws and regulations.
• Maintain personnel records and City safety programs; provide staff training and policy updates.
