Job summary

Fisher, Patterson, Sayler & Smith, LLP is seeking an HR & Office Operations Manager for our Topeka office. This exempt, in-office role combines HR leadership with administrative operations to support a professional workplace.

The candidate will oversee employee relations, benefits, onboarding, performance support, and engagement initiatives while managing office operations, budgeting, and vendor relationships. Travel to Overland Park, KS is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of human resource management experience preferred.
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification preferred.
  • Experience in professional services or legal environments preferred.
  • Strong employee relations and benefits administration experience.
  • Experience recruiting and onboarding employees.
  • Knowledge of employment laws, HR practices, and workplace compliance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

Job Title: HR & Office Operations Manager
Job Classification: Exempt
Work Schedule: Full-time, in office
Salary: $75K, and as based on experience
Location: onsite/in-office; Topeka, KS (with regular travel to Overland Park, KS)

Primary Accountability (Job Purpose):

The HR & Office Operations Manager serves as the primary resource for employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, performance support, and employee engagement initiatives. The role also oversees key administrative and office operations functions to support a productive, professional workplace.

Essential Functions:

Human Resources & Employee Relations (70% of role):

  • Serves as the primary HR contact for attorneys and staff.
  • Leads recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding processes.
  • Manages employee relations matters and provides guidance on workplace issues.

  • Manages insurance renewals and vendor agreements.

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
  • Ability to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to ten (10) pounds.
  • Ability to travel between the firm's Topeka and Overland Park offices as business needs require.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid driver's license for business travel between office locations.
  • Professional and deadline-oriented environment in a legal office setting. The noise level is typically moderate.
  • Regular interaction with attorneys, staff, clients, and external vendors.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive employee and firm information.

Travel Requirements:

  • Position requires periodic travel between the firm's Topeka and Overland Park offices (with mileage reimbursement for travel exceeding employee’s normal commute)
  • Must have reliable transportation and the ability to travel consistently between office locations as business needs require.
