Job summary

Mercer is seeking an experienced M&A consulting professional to join our HR M&A Advisory Services team as a Senior M&A Consultant. This role is based in New York City or Chicago on a hybrid schedule with at least three days in the office.

You will lead due diligence, manage workstreams, and develop workforce analytics across HR disciplines for corporate and private equity clients. You will mentor junior team members, collaborate with cross-practice Mercer consultants, and help develop proposals

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 4–7 years of professional experience; 2–3 years in a consulting role (or in-house strategy/M&A).
• Exposure to HR M&A transactions strongly preferred.
• Solid understanding of the M&A deal lifecycle and deal mechanics, including due diligence, integration planning, or separation activities across multiple transaction types.
• Working knowledge of core HR functions—total rewards, benefits, HR technology, talent, and HR operations—with developing expertise in one to two HR disciplines.
• Familiarity with regulatory considerations (e.g., WARN Act, TUPE) is a plus.
• Demonstrated project management capabilities; ability to manage competing priorities and time constraints.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to translate data into executive-level presentations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with data visualization tools; comfort with AI productivity tools in consulting.
• Willingness to travel to client sites; travel volume varies by deal activity.

Responsibilities

• Lead due diligence and transaction execution across deal types with data requests, VDR review, and quantitative analyses.
• Drive project management and cross-workstream coordination across Mercer and client teams.
• Serve as day-to-day client contact and workstream lead; partner with the Engagement Manager and Market Leader.
• Develop workforce analytics and financial models using HRIS data to support due diligence and integration planning.
• Support organizational design and culture assessment workstreams.
• Lead and develop junior team members.
• Contribute to business development including proposals, SOWs, and client presentations.
• Escalate risks and blockers to senior leadership with context and solutions.
