Job summary

Cal Poly is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to support staff and management with a broad range of HR programs, including classification, compensation, recruitment, and labor relations. The role involves interpreting labor laws and CSU policies, and handling highly confidential information related to bargaining and management strategies.

The position is a full-time, one-year temporary role with full benefits, and reports to the Director of HR Operations.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of HR theories, principles, concepts, practices, with emphasis on public sector employment.
• Thorough knowledge of CSU classification standards and collective bargaining contracts.
• Strong analytical and research skills; ability to evaluate complex regulations and policies and make recommendations.
• Ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information related to collective bargaining or management strategies.
• Ability to interpret and apply complex policies where guidelines may not exist; work under deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide a broad range of HR services to staff and management.
• Support classification, compensation, employee and labor relations, recruitment and promotion.
• Advise on state and federal labor laws, CSU policies, and bargaining agreements.
• Convene staff labor management councils and support grievances.
• Assist with investigations and management strategies.
