Job summary

LHH Recruitment Solutions is seeking an HR Generalist for a contract-to-hire opportunity in Norfolk, Virginia. This role provides employee relations guidance, performance management, investigations, and compliance support for designated departments.

The candidate will handle LOA/FMLA processes, leave coordination, and return-to-work activities, while staying current on employment laws and company policies. Strong communication and collaboration with HR leadership are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or related field; 5 years may substitute for degree.
• At least three years of human resources experience.
• SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP and/or HRCI-SPHR/PHR certification a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead and guide on employee relations, training, benefits, and compliance matters.
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws; review policies to ensure compliance.
• Attend and participate in disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
• Handle employee inquiries and supervisory escalation as needed.
• Conduct exit interviews, summarize findings and discuss trends with HR leadership.
• Manage unemployment claims for assigned departments.
• Support performance improvement plans and annual evaluations.
