Job summary

Washington County in Wisconsin is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to join a collaborative HR team supporting about 600 employees across multiple county departments. The role covers benefits administration, recruitment, employee relations, training, engagement, performance management, and HR compliance.

The candidate should have a foundation in employee benefits and will serve as the primary resource for benefits administration, vendor coordination, and wellness initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
• 3-5 years of Human Resources experience
• Experience administering employee benefit programs and supporting multiple HR functions
• Knowledge of employment laws, HR best practices, and HRIS systems
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Valid Wisconsin driver's license

Responsibilities

• Administer employee benefit programs and oversee enrollments, changes, terminations, and HRIS updates
• Coordinate wellness initiatives and the county's Wellness Fair
• Partner with departments to recruit, hire, and onboard employees
• Conduct New Hire Orientation and support employee engagement initiatives
• Advise supervisors on employee relations, performance management, policy interpretation, and corrective actions
• Assist with workplace investigations and employment law compliance
• Support employee and leadership training programs
• Respond to employee questions regarding HR programs, policies, benefits, and procedures
• Maintain accurate HR records and assist with compliance reporting
