Job summary

Hawthorne Lane seeks an HR Generalist in Washington, DC to serve as a trusted HR strategist while supporting the full employee lifecycle. You will partner with management on recruiting, employee relations, performance management, compensation, training, and firm initiatives.

In a fast-paced law firm environment, you will build relationships across the organization, guide managers on HR programs, and help deliver a positive employee experience from onboarding through development.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of progressive HR experience across multiple HR functions.
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
  • Experience in recruitment from sourcing to onboarding.
  • Discretion and professionalism for sensitive employee matters.
  • Ability to balance priorities and work independently.
  • Solid understanding of employment practices and compliance.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HR systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance on employee relations, performance management, policies, and day-to-day HR matters.
  • Lead full-cycle recruitment for administrative and professional roles, from sourcing to onboarding.
  • Support compensation initiatives with job evaluations, market research, salary analysis, and annual reviews.
  • Coordinate employee development by identifying training opportunities and delivering learning programs.
  • Advise managers on leave-related matters and coordinate accommodations/return-to-work solutions.
  • Assist with new hire orientation and onboarding to ensure a positive experience.
  • Respond to employee questions and connect team members with HR resources.
  • Contribute to HR projects and provide cross-functional support across recruiting, onboarding, and employee services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide guidance on employee relations, performance management, policies, and day‑to‑day HR matters.
  • Lead full‑cycle recruitment efforts for a variety of administrative and professional positions, from sourcing candidates through onboarding.
  • Support compensation initiatives by assisting with job evaluations, market research, salary analysis, and annual review processes.
  • Coordinate employee development efforts by identifying training opportunities and helping deliver learning programs for managers and staff.
  • Advise managers on leave‑related matters while helping coordinate accommodations and return‑to‑work solutions for employees.
  • Assist with new hire orientation and onboarding to ensure a positive and seamless employee experience.
  • Respond to employee questions, provide guidance on HR programs and policies, and connect team members with appropriate resources.
  • Contribute to HR projects and provide cross‑functional support to ensure continuity across recruiting, onboarding, and employee services.
