Responsibilities
- Oversee all recruitment activities, coordinating with department managers to fulfill hiring needs; schedule & attend recruitment and trade events to bolster talent pipeline; develop & maintain recruitment relationships & strategies
- Manage in-house apprenticeship program including recruitment, tracking, engagement & reporting
- Manage job postings across various platforms (ATS) and collaborate with external recruitment firms when necessary.
- Communicate effectively with potential candidates, guiding them through the recruitment process to ensure a positive experience (scheduling interviews, offer processing, hiring processing)
- Coordinate and facilitate the on-boarding process for new employees, ensuring a smooth transition into the organization.
- Develop and maintain on-boarding materials, including welcome kits, orientation schedules, and training resources.
- Conduct orientation sessions to familiarize new hires with company policies, culture, and job responsibilities.
- Process new hires to related systems for necessary access and tools essential for employment
Engagement
- Assist with design and administration of employee programs to promote a culture of appreciation and engagement including feedback, performance, recognition, career development
- Promote, participate and assist with planning both company-wide & external events that foster team spirit and strengthen company culture
- Represent company as ‘brand ambassador’ both internally (job sites) & externally (workforce development meetings, industry events, community outreach programs)
- Assist with training needs across the organization in alignment with leadership and HR strategy & design
Maintain active company social media presence, posting real-time events, achievements, and project highlights.
Develop, track & maintain HR related metrics and reporting (training, attrition, certification, compliance, recruitment).
Assist with company-wide communications that foster transparency (emails, HRIS bulletin board, etc.).
Assist with managing marketing materials and promotional items.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or similarly related field; at least 18 years of age
- Equivalent work experience (additional 3-4 years) may be considered in lieu of education
- 3-5 years experience in Human Resources role with demonstrated autonomy and decision-making skills for assigned areas of responsibility
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, time management and organizational skills
Successful candidates will also:
- Be reliable and dependable, proactive, able to work well independently
- Show up engaged to complete work and tasks as expected with an attitude of excellence
- Pay high attention to detail with commitment to high-quality workmanship
Preferred Candidates will:
- Have prior work experience with Registered Apprenticeship Program and/or construction industry; experience with skilled trades, especially recruitment
- Have HR Certification
- Understanding of HR best practices, employment laws, and regulations with increasing, progressive responsibility with associated roles
The compensation range provided is a general guideline. Varney considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
Physical Demands
Sit for long periods of time; repetitive movements (office equipment – keyboards, phones, printers). Some travel to project sites and recruitment events (<20% / month).
