HR Generalist

Position Summary:

The HR Generalist supports the day-to-day Human Resources functions across the organization and serves as a resource for employees and supervisors. This position is responsible for supporting recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, HRIS/payroll processes, training, compliance, recordkeeping, and other HR initiatives.

The ideal candidate is organized, approachable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This position requires the ability to balance employee support with company policies and business needs while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.

Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Recruiting & Hiring
  • Support recruiting efforts for hourly, administrative, and professional positions.
  • Coordinate job postings, candidate communication, interviews, and hiring documentation.
  • Work with hiring managers to ensure timely movement of candidates through the hiring process.
  • Coordinate pre-employment requirements, including background checks, Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) checks, drug screenings, and other required screenings.
  • Prepare and process employment offers and pre-hire documentation.
  • Maintain accurate recruiting and applicant records within the company's HR systems.
Onboarding & Employee Records
  • Coordinate the onboarding process for new employees to ensure a professional and consistent new-hire experience.
  • Complete and maintain required employment documentation, including Form I-9 and E-Verify requirements.
  • Ensure employee information is accurately entered and maintained within the HRIS/payroll system.
  • Maintain personnel files and other HR records in accordance with company policies and applicable record-retention requirements.
  • Process employee changes, including transfers, supervisor changes, compensation changes, status changes, and terminations.
Employee Relations
  • Serve as a resource for employees regarding HR-related questions, policies, benefits, payroll, attendance, and workplace concerns.
  • Assist supervisors and managers with employee relations matters and policy interpretation.
  • Support employee investigations by gathering information, documenting findings, and maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
  • Assist with disciplinary documentation, performance improvement plans, attendance matters, and other employee-related documentation.
  • Promote positive communication and professional working relationships throughout the organization.
Payroll, Timekeeping & HRIS
  • Support payroll and timekeeping processes by reviewing employee information, time records, and personnel changes for accuracy.
  • Assist employees and supervisors with HRIS, timekeeping, onboarding, and employee self-service questions.
  • Maintain accurate employee data within the HRIS.
  • Identify discrepancies and work with the appropriate parties to resolve payroll or timekeeping issues.
  • Support implementation and continued improvement of HR technology and automated workflows.
Benefits Administration
  • Assist employees with benefit enrollment, eligibility, qualifying life events, and general benefit questions.
  • Support annual open enrollment activities.
  • Coordinate benefit changes with employees, carriers, brokers, and/or HRIS providers as necessary.
  • Assist with leave administration and employee communication regarding available leave programs.
  • Maintain appropriate benefit documentation and records.
Training & Performance Management
  • Assist with assigning and tracking required employee training.
  • Maintain training records and follow up on outstanding requirements.
  • Support annual and introductory performance review processes.
  • Assist management with employee development, performance documentation, and training initiatives.
  • Help identify opportunities to improve supervisor and employee training.
Compliance & HR Administration
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with applicable federal and state employment laws and company policies.
  • Support HR requirements related to FMLA, ADA, EEO, FLSA, I-9/E-Verify, workers' compensation, unemployment, and other employment-related matters.
  • Assist with workers' compensation documentation and coordination as assigned.
  • Respond to unemployment claims and employment verification requests as appropriate.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee, medical, compensation, and company information.
  • Assist with HR audits, reporting, policy updates, and compliance documentation.
  • Support development and implementation of HR procedures and process improvements.
General Responsibilities
  • Provide HR support to multiple departments and manufacturing locations as needed.
  • Build effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, managers, and company leadership.
  • Participate in employee engagement, recognition, recruiting, and company events.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, automate, and improve HR processes.
  • Assist with special projects and other Human Resources responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • 2–5 years of Human Resources experience preferred.
  • Previous HR experience in a manufacturing, industrial, distribution, or similar environment strongly preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience will be considered.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws and standard HR practices.
  • Experience with HRIS/payroll systems; Paylocity experience is a plus.
  • Experience with applicant tracking, background screening, onboarding, and E-Verify preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.
  • Ability to work independently while knowing when issues should be escalated to management.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position works primarily in an office environment but regularly interacts with employees in manufacturing and warehouse areas. The employee may occasionally be exposed to noise, temperature changes, industrial equipment, chemicals, and other conditions associated with a manufacturing environment. Required personal protective equipment must be worn when entering designated production areas.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
