Job summary

Socket.dev seeks a Director of Human Resources to lead HR operations across multiple states, including payroll, benefits, leave, and compliance. This hands-on executive reports to the VP of HR and will manage the HR Manager and Recruiting Specialist to ensure smooth, high-quality execution of HR programs.

The role requires 7+ years of HR leadership, strong regulatory knowledge, and the ability to drive cross-functional initiatives in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent experience
• 7+ years of progressive HR experience including leadership and multi-state operations
• Experience mentoring HR team members and conducting performance reviews
• Strong knowledge of employment law, payroll regulations, and total rewards compliance
• Operational, analytical, and project management skills with hands-on execution
• Ability to build cross-functional relationships and influence at multiple levels
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and conflict resolution
• Highly organized with ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Experience administering and configuring HRIS/payroll systems (e.g., ADP, HRIS platforms)
• Change management experience and driving policy adoption across an organization
• HR analytics and data fluency with ability to build insightful dashboards
• HR certifications (S/PHR, SHRM-CP/SCP) preferred
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• Ability to travel up to 30% for meetings and site visits

Responsibilities

• Operationalize HR strategy into annual goals and translate it into actionable plans
• Directly manage, coach, and develop HR team members with regular 1:1s
• Oversee payroll, benefits, leave administration, compliance, and employee relations
• Identify gaps in processes and implement improvements
• Oversee multi-state payroll compliance with applicable laws
• Own benefits administration and vendor management including renewals
• Oversee leave of absence programs (FMLA, state leave, disability)
• Ensure regulatory compliance across operating states
• Lead recruiting, onboarding, and lifecycle processes
• Administer performance management and total rewards programs
• Maintain HR process documentation and dashboards
• Collaborate with department leaders on hiring and org goals
• Serve as HR operations backup to the VP of HR
