Job summary

The Salvation Army in Des Moines, IA is seeking a Human Resources Coordinator to support employees, managers, and HR operations. This role will manage confidential records, assist with onboarding and benefits, and help ensure compliance across HR processes.

You'll gain exposure to employee relations, leave administration, payroll support, and training initiatives within a mission-driven nonprofit environment that values service and integrity.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field required or equivalent work experience.
• 1–2 years of HR/administrative experience or related role preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and HRIS/ADP is a plus.
• Familiarity with employee leaves, safety, workers' comp, or employment compliance helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

• Help employees navigate HR programs, policies, and benefits.
• Maintain confidential employee records and HR documentation.
• Process employee changes, benefits enrollments, and HR transactions in ADP.
• Support payroll and timekeeping processes.
• Assist with onboarding and orientation for new employees.
• Ensure HR records are complete, accurate, and compliance-focused.
