Job summary

The Center for Research Computing (CRC) at the University of Notre Dame is seeking an HPC User Support Engineer to help researchers leverage large-scale computing, storage infrastructure, accelerated GPU clusters, and emerging AI/ML workflows to maximize performance and efficiency in their work.

You will apply Linux expertise, programming and scripting, and experience with job scheduling, scientific applications, and distributed file systems.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in a STEM field with 1+ years of HPC or scientific computing support or a Bachelor’s with 3–5+ years of relevant technical experience.
Experience in Linux, programming/scripting, MPI, job schedulers, and distributed file systems.
Ability to explain complex technical concepts to researchers with varying levels of computational experience.

Responsibilities

Provide technical support to users of HPC resources via email, meetings, and in-person consultations; troubleshoot workflows and resolve issues.
Develop and update documentation to guide users through common issues and workflows.
Assist researchers with configuring and debugging AI/ML workflows on accelerated cluster infrastructure.
Lead weekly HPC orientation and training sessions for diverse users.
Collaborate with departments to maintain a world-class research computing environment.
Monitor system usage and advise on performance optimization.
Communicate progress and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
