Job summary

Penn State University’s Applied Research Laboratory in State College, PA invites an HPC System Administrator to join the Structural Mechanics Division. You will administer compute clusters, develop monitoring scripts, and maintain hardware/software stacks for high-performance computing with frequent end-user interaction.

The role offers on-site work with potential travel to remote locations and requires eligibility for security clearance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent with 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Current eligibility for access to classified information (Secret/Top Secret).
  • Experience with Linux, HPC environments, scripting and system management.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain existing HPC systems by ensuring compute node and storage availability to end-users.
  • Develop and deploy scripts to monitor system health and usage.
  • Maintain system firmware and software revisions including OS upgrades, updates, patches.
  • Perform diagnostics to resolve hardware failures.
  • Collaborate with users and vendors to identify and procure components.
  • Monitor performance and usage and address issues with the team.
