Job summary

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • ICC Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector certifications preferred or must obtain within probation period.
  • Experience with building codes and zoning regulations is expected.
  • Proficient in MS Office and data record maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects existing residential buildings for structural, safety and other hazards, citing corrections to meet housing codes and zoning ordinances.
  • Condemns unsafe structures, notifies tenants, and assists in relocation as needed; prepares demolition orders and provides evidence for Municipal Court.
  • Maintains and updates records; prepares reports and correspondence to property owners to resolve violations or complaints.
  • Interprets building and zoning codes for builders, contractors, homeowners, and the public.
