Job summary

City of Marietta, GA is hiring a Code Enforcement Inspector in the Development Services department to perform inspections enforcing housing codes and zoning ordinances.

Responsibilities include inspecting residential buildings for hazards, condemning unsafe structures, maintaining records, and communicating regulations to builders and the public. ICC certifications are required or must be obtained within the probation period.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 5 years of related code enforcement experience in housing and/or zoning.
• ICC Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector certifications or ability to obtain within the working test period.
• Valid Class C Georgia driver's license and satisfactory driving history.
• Knowledge of building construction methods and materials.
• Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general PC use.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to enforce codes firmly, impartially and with tact.
• Knowledge of Standard Housing Codes and zoning regulations; ability to interpret them.

Responsibilities

• Inspect existing residential buildings for safety and code compliance; cite corrections and monitor remediation.
• Condemn unsafe structures, notify tenants, assist relocation when needed, and prepare demolition orders as required.
• Maintain and update records; issue reports and correspondence to property owners.
• Explain building and zoning ordinances to builders, homeowners and the public.
• Coordinate commercial inspections with other city staff; submit results and notify owners of actions.
• Respond to citizen complaints with field investigations of violations; involve Police for enforcement when needed.
• Conduct limited title searches to locate property owners; perform follow‑up inspections.
• Enforce city sign ordinances; issue citations when appropriate.
• Provide evidence for Municipal Court and City Council hearings; stay current with regulations.
• Assist in training new employees and participate in meetings; perform related duties as assigned.
