Job summary

State of South Carolina's Department of Corrections seeks a Housing Lieutenant Supervisor to oversee security personnel and inmate custody within the unit. You will supervise staff performance, conduct, and appearance, and assist with evaluations, disciplinary actions, and counseling.

You will also lead shift briefings and ensure all changes are communicated to officers. The role requires completing eight weeks of SCDC Basic Training after hire, and meeting the minimum education requirements,

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; related experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree may substitute for experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy or obtain certification within six months.

Responsibilities

• Supervise security personnel assigned to the unit and inmate custody.
• Oversee performance, appearance, and conduct of staff.
• Assist with evaluations, disciplinary actions, counseling, and briefing.
• Brief officers at shift start and communicate changes affecting inmates and operations.
• Perform checks and inspections to ensure standards and equipment function.
• Assist in counts and investigate complaints.
• Fill in for the Housing Lieutenant in their absence.
• Maintain OSHA and safety standards.
