Job summary

Vera French Housing seeks a Housing Support Specialist to help individuals access and maintain safe, affordable housing. The role focuses on leasing, eligibility, tenant communication, and day-to-day housing operations in a full-time capacity.

You’ll support HUD, LIHTC, Section 8, and HOME funding compliance, while maintaining tenant records and providing compassionate, trauma-informed service across multiple locations.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent experience required/preferred.
• LIHTC certification preferred or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Strong communication, organization, confidentiality, follow-through, and attention to detail.
• Experience with affordable housing programs or property management software preferred.
• Experience working with individuals with mental health needs or in a role requiring empathy is desirable.

Responsibilities

In this full-time role, you will help individuals access and maintain safe, affordable housing while supporting leasing, eligibility, compliance, tenant communication, and day-to-day housing operations.

What You'll Do

• Assist with applicant screening, income verification, leasing, renewals, and tenant follow-up.
• Calculate rents and utility allowances for income-based units and complete accurate documentation.
• Maintain tenant records, lease files, reports, property keys, and compliance paperwork.
• Support HUD, LIHTC, Section 8, HOME funds, and other housing compliance requirements.
• Provide respectful customer service and tenant education in a trauma-informed environment.
• Assist with inspections, annual rent increases, compliance reviews, and travel to multiple locations as needed.

What You'll Need

• Associate degree preferred in business, bookkeeping, compliance, property management, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• LIHTC certification preferred, or ability to obtain certification within 6 months and maintain it throughout employment.
• Strong communication, organization, confidentiality, follow-through, and attention to detail.
• Experience with affordable housing programs, property management software preferred.
• Experience working with individuals with mental health needs or in a role requiring demonstrated empathy is desirable.
