Job summary

One80 Place is seeking Shelter Assistants to provide safe, trauma-informed support to clients in our shelters. Roles include intake, crisis management, and collaboration with staff to move individuals toward permanent housing.

Positions are available as full-time or part-time non-exempt, hourly roles. Candidates should have a high school diploma and at least two years’ experience with homelessness or similar populations, with strong communication skills and reliability.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Two years’ experience with homelessness or similar population.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to handle crisis calmly and resolve conflicts.
• Willingness to rotate shifts including overnights, days, evenings, weekends.

Responsibilities

• Intake: complete initial needs assessment and direct clients to shelter resources.
• Recordkeeping: document conversations, issues, progress, and incidents; file shelter bed assignments.
• Property management: ensure safety of property and report hazards.
• Teamwork: collaborate with staff; participate in trainings and meetings.
• Duties: assist clients with housing goals, case planning, and scheduling; support kitchen and operations.
• Provide homeless connection line assistance and maintain client areas.
