Job summary

One80 Place in Charleston, SC seeks Shelter Assistants to support clients in our shelters. You will help maintain a safe, housing-focused environment and assist individuals experiencing homelessness on their path to permanent housing.

This is a non-exempt, hourly role with both full-time and part-time positions available. You will participate in intake, recordkeeping, housing documents, and coordination with staff to ensure smooth shelter operations and client wellbeing.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma.
• Two years’ experience working with homelessness or a similar population.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts, including overnights, holidays, weekends.
• Reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Complete intake processes and confirm client acuity and needs.
• Document pertinent client information and progress toward housing goals.
• Report incidents promptly to Shelter Manager and assist with facility maintenance needs.
• Maintain shelter schedules and assist kitchen and dining operations as needed.
• Engage clients in housing goal planning and coordinate with case management.
