Job summary

Allegheny County Department of Human Services is seeking a Housing Specialist within the Office of Community Services to support transitions from emergency shelters and homeless housing programs. The role focuses on preventing homelessness and sustaining housing for those in need, working across CoC providers.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or equivalent in a related field with DHS-style knowledge.
• Experience in housing services, homelessness prevention, or rapid rehousing is valued.
• Ability to access and interpret local, state, and federal housing resources.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct assistance to resolve housing crises and support transitions.
• Screen eligibility for publicly and privately funded programs related to housing.
• Explain housing options, lease terms, and tenant rights to households.
• Assist with paperwork, document readiness, and housing applications.
• Track supports and participate in team meetings and trainings.
• Identify process improvements and program gaps for DHS services.
