Job summary

Bowery Residents' Committee seeks an Independent Living Specialist to manage an assigned tenant caseload and support housing stability. You will assist with entitlements applications, provide referrals to medical, mental health and substance abuse services, and offer supportive counseling.

Regular apartment visits ensure safety and compliance with guidelines. The role is full-time in New York, NY, with emphasis on helping homeless individuals reclaim independence and stability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred; HS diploma or GED required.
  • Experience with the substance abuse and/or mentally ill population is required.
  • Basic computer literacy is required; CPR training or willingness to take CPR is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage an assigned caseload of tenants and support housing stability.
  • Assist tenants with applications and recertifications for entitlements.
  • Provide linkages and referrals to community resources (vocational, medical, mental health, substance abuse).
  • Offer supportive counseling to tenants.
  • Make regular visits to tenant apartments to ensure a safe, healthy living environment in accordance with guidelines.
