Job summary

Volunteers of America Western Washington seeks a Homelessness Prevention Coordinator I to assist clients with case management and housing stability. You will help with rent assistance, landlord negotiations, and access to services while maintaining excellent client relations.

Responsibilities include referrals, collaboration with departments, confidentiality, and timely documentation in HMIS. Remote work options may be available as part of hybrid scheduling.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in conflict resolution, social work, psychology, communications, or social services.
  • In lieu of degree, relevant work experience accepted.
  • Experience with families and individuals in crisis.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Conflict resolution, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to stay neutral during mediation.
  • Knowledge of clinical/safety assessment and safety planning.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and data management systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently or remotely and in office as needed.
  • Knowledge of human services in Snohomish County preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for collaboration with staff, landlords, and participants.

Responsibilities

  • Accept referrals from the Coordinated Entry Support Specialist.
  • Provide resources including landlord negotiation, behavioral health support, benefits, employment connections, and housing stability services.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with landlords and property owners.
  • Utilize mediation and negotiation to maintain housing.
  • Explain rental agreements and housing policies to clients.
  • Collaborate with other departments and partner agencies to maximize outcomes.
  • Maintain confidentiality per policy and HMIS standards.
  • Meet with clients in person as needed and develop action plans.
  • Use Progressive Engagement to address needs and barriers.
  • Determine level and duration of financial assistance for eligible participants.
  • Structure graduated rental assistance as income increases.
  • Complete progress notes within 24 hours of contact and document in HMIS.
  • Complete Self-Sufficiency Matrix assessments and housing retention evaluations.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
