Summary

This position works out of a 97-unit family shelter for homeless families with children. The Housing Specialist is responsible for working with clients to identify permanent housing solutions.

Responsibilities

1. Interface with landlords and management companies to establish and maintain relationships.
2. Create and maintain liaison with DHS Housing Placement Unit.
3. Ensure landlord and management compliance with housing laws, building codes, and lease agreements.
4. Collaborate with Case Management to identify clients ready for housing.
5. Resolve crises or conflicts with landlords and management relationships.
6. Maintain fair housing standards in securing apartments.
7. Develop and maintain a database of available housing options.
8. Identify new housing opportunities through ongoing networks.
9. Prepare and coordinate reports related to housing codes and compliance.
10. Inform Case Management of unit readiness and client issues.
11. Prepare housing packages and collaborate with Case Management on applications and documentation.

Qualifications

Experience negotiating lease agreements with landlords or management companies, providing housing for special needs populations, and knowledge of relevant housing and disability laws. Valid driver’s license required. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
