Description

Organization Overview: The Goddard Riverside Community Center (Goddard Riverside) and the Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center (Isaacs Center) are well-established Manhattan community-based agencies supporting services to approximately 30,000 New Yorkers. They are leading human services organizations in NYC, serving children, youth, families, homeless individuals, and older adults across Manhattan and NYC. Their mission is to promote a fair and just society where everyone can pursue better lives for themselves and their families. The Isaacs Center mainly focuses on children, low-income families, out-of-school and out-of-work youth, and aging New Yorkers, operating community centers in East Harlem and Yorkville, delivering impactful, innovative, and intergenerational programs.

Program Description: Baxter Safe Haven provides transitional housing for 75 adults experiencing homelessness, aiming for permanent housing. On-site services include case management, entitlement assistance, medical and psychiatric care, substance use counseling, group activities, meals, recreation, and 24/7 security.

Position Summary: Serve as part of the interdisciplinary team working to secure permanent housing for residents of Baxter Safe Haven.

Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday, 9 am - 5 pm

Salary Range: $40,207 to $47,000

Qualifications: Candidates must meet the required qualifications. Salary will be based on experience and additional qualifications.

Roles, Responsibilities, and Essential Duties
  • Conduct housing eligibility assessments
  • Complete housing application packages
  • Coach clients for housing interviews
  • Develop linkages with supportive housing programs, NYCHA, real estate companies, landlords, etc.
  • Maintain and update listings of affordable housing
  • Collaborate with Outreach teams to secure permanent housing
  • Develop and facilitate client workshops and sessions on housing skills
  • Track placements and follow up with clients
  • Assist clients in achieving self-sufficiency
  • Meet with clients to set goals and monitor progress
  • Maintain records of services provided
  • Advocate for clients to overcome barriers
  • Negotiate with landlords and service providers
  • Maintain professional boundaries with diverse populations
  • Respond appropriately in crisis situations
  • Participate in staff meetings and supervision
  • Work flexible hours if needed
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
  • Associate degree required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Experience with homeless adults preferred
  • Experience with individuals with mental health and substance use disorders preferred
  • Prior transitional or supportive housing experience preferred
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
