Qualifications

Summary:

The department includes four divisions: Public Housing, Affordable Housing, Community Connections, and Administration, which work collaboratively to execute the Town Council's affordable housing and equitable community engagement goals. The department is committed to fostering an environment where everyone on the team is empowered to lead and achieve results consistent with the Council's goals and the Department's work plan.

About the Role:
This position will perform maintenance on the Town’s portfolio of 296 public housing units working collaboratively with a high-performing, energetic, fun, and diverse team. The ideal candidate will bring experience in building maintenance and customer service, a commitment to public service, and a collaborative mindset.

Essential Functions:
  • Completes safety inspections and preventative maintenance of public housing units
  • Performs general maintenance of public housing units, including plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and appliance repairs as permissible
  • Uses a work order system to track and prioritize maintenance requests and document completion.
  • Provides notice to residents regarding upcoming work.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Valid NC Driver's License
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a related field OR any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the job
Knowledge of:
  • The operation of a wide range of hand tools and equipment in the electrical, carpentry, HVAC, and plumbing trades
  • Practices in Federal, State, and Local building codes and safety regulations preferred
Ability to:
  • Manage multiple projects and shifting priorities
  • Work independently, as well as effectively as part of a team
  • Communicate effectively and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, residents, and other stakeholders
  • Serve on the departmental on-call rotation
  • Model behaviors that are consistent with our values of RESPECT and organizational commitments to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)
