Job summary

The City of Raleigh seeks a Chief Housing Inspector to provide strategic leadership for the Code Enforcement Division, directing a team enforcing housing, building, public nuisance, vehicle, electrical codes across the City.

You will collaborate with property owners, developers, government agencies, and community stakeholders to resolve complex compliance issues and guide practical solutions that protect public health, safety, and welfare.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required or equivalent experience.
• Experience in code enforcement, building inspection, or related work.
• Knowledge of NC Building Codes and NEC is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervises, manages, and evaluates assigned employees and hires as needed.
• Directs code enforcement across housing, building, nuisance, and related codes.
• Reviews cases for legal sufficiency and coordinates enforcement actions.
• Interprets city housing and building codes and NC state codes.
• Collaborates with developers, property owners, and agencies to resolve compliance issues.
• Coordinates with IT for plan review, permits, and stop work orders.
