Job summary

The City of Raleigh is seeking a Chief Electrical Inspector to lead its electrical inspection program within the Planning and Development Department. The role oversees inspections, enforces NC statewide codes, and ensures construction compliance across the City’s jurisdiction.

The ideal candidate provides clear technical guidance, develops staff, and maintains high standards of service to contractors, engineers, property owners, and City leadership while advancing building safety and code

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED; 7–9 years’ experience in electrical inspection or related work.
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for the required education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates the daily activities of the electrical inspection team
• Interprets and applies the North Carolina Electrical Code, applicable provisions of the North Carolina State Building Code, state statutes, administrative rules, and City requirements
• Oversees electrical inspections for residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, and other construction projects
• Conducts field inspections when necessary to address complex projects, complaints, disputes, or unusual conditions
• Provides technical assistance to contractors, electricians, engineers, architects, property owners, developers, and other customers
