Job summary

One80 Place is hiring a Shelter Assistant to support clients in its shelters and help move individuals toward permanent housing. The role is full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM, non-exempt and hourly.

Responsibilities include intake, client assessments, recordkeeping, and coordinating with shelter staff for safe, trauma-informed services. Applicants should have at least a high school diploma and two years of homeless-services experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma.
• Two years’ experience working with those experiencing homelessness or a similar population.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as an effective team member.
• Ability to deal effectively with conflict and crisis in a calm manner to bring about a positive resolution.
• Able and willing to work rotating shifts (i.e., overnight, day and evening) as well as holidays, weekends.
• Reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Intake processing and acuity confirmation for shelter clients.
• Document pertinent client information and incident details in HMIS or equivalent system.
• Assist with shelter safety, cleanliness, and housing-focused services.
• Collaborate with shelter staff to support clients toward permanent housing.
• Conduct housing stability activities and client goal planning.
• Provide information and support to clients, families, and community members as needed.
