Job summary

BJC HealthCare is seeking a Housekeeping Manager to lead the housekeeping department within a hospital environment. You will shape environmental services operations, influence strategy, and implement new solutions leveraging modern tools to support clean, safe, and healing environments for patients and families.

Responsibilities include staffing, training, budgeting, ensuring compliance, and maintaining infection control standards to support exceptional patient care.

Qualifications

• 2-5 years of experience in housekeeping or facilities operations.
• 2-5 years of supervisor experience managing staff and performance.

Responsibilities

• Manages team including hiring, training, assigning work, evaluating performance and development plans.
• Manages staffing, budgets (revenue/expense) and responds to budget changes.
• Creates effective work plans with resources, processes, and space.
• Identifies and recommends optimal staffing levels.
• Ensures compliance training and adherence to policies.
• Handles hazardous/infectious waste and infection control practices.

Overview

Barnes‑Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. Barnes‑Jewish Hospital's staff is composed of full‑time academic faculty and community physicians of Washington University School of Medicine, supported by a house staff of residents, interns, fellows and other medical professionals. Recognizing its excellence in nursing care, Barnes‑Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Barnes‑Jewish Extended Care is part of the Barnes‑Jewish continuum of top ranked, compassionate care. It is a 120‑bed skilled nursing facility, located at 401 Corporate Park Drive in Clayton, Missouri. Organized as a hospital‑based facility, Barnes‑Jewish Extended Care is under the direction of Barnes‑Jewish Hospital medical staff with full support of laboratory and rehabilitation departments. Services range from minimal assistance to subacute post‑hospital recovery. Our patients range from the young to the elderly, as well as post‑trauma rehabilitation patients and those in need of hospice or respite care. The Housekeeping Department at BJEC is responsible for delivering a clean and safe environment of care for our patients and residents.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

Development and management of overall operations and activities of the Housekeeping Department.

Responsibilities

• Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
• Develops and adheres to departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets. Responds to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
• Creates effective work plans, that include, identifying the correct resources, processes and space needed by the work unit.
• Identifies and recommends optimal staffing levels.
• Ensures work unit is trained and evaluated on knowledge and adherence to compliance policies and procedures.
• Handles hazardous and or infectious waste properly and practices infection control.
