Position Overview

Polaris Rehabilitation and Care Center is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented, and compassionate Housekeeping Assistant to join our Environmental Services team. This role is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, safe, and welcoming environment for our residents, visitors, and staff. The Housekeeping Assistant plays a vital role in infection prevention, resident satisfaction, and the overall appearance of our facility by ensuring resident rooms, common areas, and workspaces are consistently cleaned and maintained to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clean and sanitize resident rooms, bathrooms, hallways, offices, dining areas, and common spaces according to facility schedules and infection control standards.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, polish, and disinfect assigned areas using approved cleaning products and equipment.
  • Empty trash receptacles and replace liners throughout the facility.
  • Restock housekeeping supplies, paper products, soap dispensers, and other necessary items in assigned areas.
  • Follow proper procedures for handling, transporting, and disposing of waste and soiled materials.
  • Observe and maintain infection prevention practices, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Respond promptly to housekeeping requests from residents, families, nursing staff, and other departments.
  • Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, damaged equipment, or unusual conditions to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Maintain housekeeping carts, equipment, and storage areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Assist with cleaning resident rooms following discharge, transfer, or admissions to ensure rooms are prepared for new residents.
  • Provide courteous and respectful customer service while interacting with residents, families, visitors, and coworkers.
  • Adhere to all facility policies, safety procedures, infection control standards, and applicable state and federal regulations.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous housekeeping, environmental services, healthcare, hospitality, or custodial experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with residents, families, and team members.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
  • Dependable work ethic with excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull housekeeping equipment, cleaning supplies, and trash bags (up to 35 lbs. regularly and more with assistance as needed).
  • Ability to safely operate housekeeping equipment and cleaning tools.
  • Ability to work around cleaning chemicals while following all safety guidelines.
  • Ability to respond promptly and effectively in emergency situations.
