Job summary

Midwood Safe Haven in Brooklyn, affiliated with Colonial Group, seeks a dedicated Housekeeper to maintain common areas and client units as needed. Reporting to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, you will contribute to a clean, private, safe environment for residents.

This 35-hour, onsite role requires physical endurance and reliability; duties include floor care, trash and recyclables, event setup, and assisting tradespeople. Experience in cleaning and basic computer skills are a plus.

Qualifications

• Comparable work experience required.
• Experience operating vacuum cleaners and high-speed buffers.
• Ability to lift/move furniture and appliances.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to stand for long periods and climb stairs if needed.
• Experience with special needs populations a plus.
• Basic computer knowledge is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, wash, dust, and vacuum.
• Seal, wax, and buff floors and hard surfaces.
• Maintain sidewalks, including sweeping, raking leaves, and shoveling snow.
• Clean individual units when vacated or requested by work order.
• Sort and package recyclables to comply with NYC regulations.
• Operate compactor.
• Set up and clean up for meetings and other events.
• Assist painters and engineers when assigned.
• Perform work at other facilities as required.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Located in Midwood, Brooklyn, Midwood Safe Havenserves 51individuals not yet ready to transition into permanent housing, as well as those who may have struggled in other housing programs.Midwood Safe Havenoffers an alternative to life on the street: private, safe, clean, and affordable short-term accommodations.On-site case management and clinical services are availabletomeet the needs of itsresidentsand to helpthose ready to move intosecure permanent housing.

Reporting to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, theHousekeeperis a part of the department that maintains the common areas of the safe haven. Examples of common areas include offices, multi-purpose rooms, roof deck, garden, trash collection area, lobby, fitness room and sidewalks. Client areas will also be cleaned.

This position has a 35-hour work week, onsite.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

• Sweep, mop, wash, dust, and vacuum

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma, GED, Trade School Diploma, or equivalent


• Ability to stand for several hours during shift and to climb stairs in the event of an emergency


• Experience working with special needs populations a plus


• Basic knowledge of using a computer is a plus, but is not required
