Job summary

Touro University in New York is seeking a dedicated Housekeeper to support cleaning and maintenance of academic buildings. This full-time role covers public/common areas, safety compliance, and routine janitorial duties across facilities.

Responsibilities include waste disposal, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, restocking, and reporting repairs. Must be able to lift 25-40 pounds, climb stairs, and work a 2:00pm-10:30pm or 8:00am-5:00pm schedule as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Requires regular, reliable and predictable work attendance.
  • Ability to operate custodial and maintenance equipment.
  • Good knowledge of proper chemical storage, use and inventory.
  • Skill in maintenance tools and materials.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans all areas of the building including, but not limited to the following: empties and cleans waste receptacles; dusts and mops hard floors; vacuums carpets; arranges furniture; reports damage to supervisor; cleans glass and doors; daily trash and restock supplies; replaces light bulbs; disinfects sinks and stalls; keeps entrances clean; performs other duties as assigned.
  • Daily maintenance tasks such as cleaning and sanitizing classrooms, corridors, and common areas.
  • Maintains cleaning equipment and stocks supplies as needed.

Overview

House Keepers are assigned to each Academic Building to maintain public/ common areas, to assist in eliminating distractions such as unwanted graffiti, dust/dirt, and unwanted smells from the learning environment and to assist in the protection of the faculty, employees, and student's health and safety.

Responsibilities

Cleans all areas of the building including, but not limited to the following:

  • Empties and cleans waste receptacles and replaces bags as necessary.
  • Dusts and mops hard surfaced floors.
  • Thoroughly vacuum, including all edges of carpeted floors.
  • Arranges furniture to its original position.
  • Report any damage or vandalism to your House Keeper or supervisor.
  • Cleans glass to classroom entrance doors.
  • Wet mops hard floors as weather and usage conditions dictate (daily during winter months).
  • Dusts exposed horizontal surfaces such as window sills, empty shelves, door casings, and bottoms of furniture (NOTE: In scientific laboratories, bench tops and hoods are not to be cleaned by House Keeping).
  • Replaces light bulbs as necessary.
  • Clean all glass.
  • Keep all entrances clean.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Daily empties trash receptacles, cleans as needed, and replaces bag liners.
  • Checks and replaces all paper products such as tissue and hand towels as needed.
  • Checks and fills soap dispensers as necessary.
  • Cleans and disinfects sinks, toilet seats, and side panels to stall partitions.
  • Cleans mirrors.
  • Cleans entrance panels to stalls of fingerprints, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Working Conditions
  • Extensive time sitting and standing.
  • Able to climb stairs, ladders and scaffolds, bend, stoop, push, pull, reach, and kneel.
  • Ability to lift 25-40 pounds.
  • Must wear a uniform.
  • Exposure to chemical cleaners and pesticides.
Maximum Salary

USD $32,400.00/Yr.

Minimum Salary

USD $35,360.00/Yr.
