Summary of Job Duties: The Physics Library Assistant is a temporary hourly position working in the Physics Library to support and serve library patrons and assist the Library Supervisor. The position will assist patrons by locating and checking materials in and out of the library, providing information and assistance regarding resources, and answering questions concerning the proper operation and maintenance of equipment. The position will develop and maintain a working knowledge of the physics collection and resources, including physics-related databases, to assist patrons with basic and in-depth information queries; perform circulation functions, including shelving, filing, and processing library materials; and perform other duties as assigned. The position will assist the Physics Library Supervisor in maintaining a database of faculty publications, updating and maintaining staff procedures and forms, monitoring and maintaining the conditions in the library, monitoring and training other staff, coordinating assistance for library and Physics department events, and providing research and reference training and help for library patrons and staff. This position will work closely with Physics department staff and faculty to ensure a good collaborative relationship between the Library and the Physics department and report any concerns or needs to the Physics Library Supervisor. This position reports to the Physics Library Supervisor.

Work Schedule: 25 hours per week. Specific hours to be arranged between Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others. Qualifications:

  • At least one year of relevant experience in an academic library environment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Effective communication skills

  • Ability to be timely, keep a regular schedule, and be self-motivated

Salary Information:

$14.00 per hour
