Job summary

City of Santa Clarita is seeking a part-time day camp supervisor to oversee a day camp site, supervise staff, and manage site administration in the Recreation Division.

The role requires supervising children, coordinating staff schedules, and ensuring safety and cleanliness of the facility; availability from 7am to 6pm, up to 40 hours/week.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; some college preferred.
  • Three years experience working with children in a day camp setting.
  • One year experience in camp supervisory/leadership capacity.

Description/Duties And Responsibilities

Under direction, this classification trains and supervises personnel assigned in a wide range of recreational, cultural, and community services activities; plans organizes, and leads recreational activities including, but not limited to, day camp, recreational classes, and/or special events. This part-time position will supervise a day camp site including staff supervision and site administration in the Recreation Division of the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department.

Education and Experience
  • High School Graduate or GED Equivalent; some college courses preferred.
  • Three years experience working with children in a day camp setting.
  • One year experience in a camp supervisory/leadership capacity.
Knowledge and Abilities
  • Team-oriented, self-motivated, an enthusiastic.
  • Excellent customer service.
  • Excellent communication and follow-up skills.
  • Positive attitude to work with and supervisor staff.

Additional Information

All offers of employment with the City of Santa Clarita are made contingent upon receipt of proof of legal right to work in the United States and successful completion of a post-offer pre-employment physical, which includes a drug screen.

Part-time, temporary, and seasonal (PTS) workers are at-will. Generally PTS employees are limited to no more than 1,000 hours of work per fiscal year and participate in ICMA-RC (deferred compensation as a replacement for Social Security).

Part-time, temporary, seasonal employees are not eligible for benefits and must participate in ICMA-RC (deferred compensation as a replacement for Social Security).

  • Mandatory staff training June 8-12, 2009; additional training TBD. Camp Dates are June 15 - August 7, 2009.
  • Interviews for new applicants will be held Saturday, April 18 from 8 am - 3 pm. All applicants invited for an interview must participate in the interview process. Location will be specified in invitation.
  • Interviews for returning (summer 2008) day camp staff will be held the week of April 6. All applicants invited for an interview must participate in the interview process.
