Job summary

The CIVILIAN Hotel in New York is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead the operation, maintenance, and repair of hotel facilities and equipment. The role includes managing engineering staff and coordinating a mix of office and property maintenance duties.

Responsibilities include planning maintenance, supervising repairs, and ensuring safety standards while delivering excellent guest service and maintaining facility appearance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate degree in Building Maintenance, Technology, or related field preferred.
• Previous hotel experience preferred.
• Minimum 3 years hands-on experience on minor electrical, plumbing, mechanical and HVAC repairs.
• Ability to read, speak and write English to communicate with guests and staff.
• Boiler/license (stationary engineer) preferred; CMP certification preferred; FLSD certified.

Responsibilities

• Oversee maintenance team day-to-day operations.
• Supervise installation and maintenance of hotel equipment.
• Plan, schedule and prioritize maintenance activities.
• Ensure prompt, professional, and courteous guest service.
• Maintain facilities and amenity standards; report major repairs to management.
• Prepare maintenance reports for management.
• Conduct regular inspections of property, equipment, and facilities.
• Coordinate responses to maintenance inquiries and issues.
• Supervise, train, and develop maintenance staff.
